Privacy policy
Last updated 25 October 2026
Squeezebox Studio is an iPad and Mac app that turns tunes into melodeon tab. It's made by SGWNI, a one-person app studio (“I” and “me” below). This policy explains what the app and this website do with information, and where it goes.
In short
- The app doesn't collect any of your data. I never receive your tunes, boxes or settings.
- Your library syncs between your iPad and Mac through your own iCloud account, which only you can see.
- There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking in the app.
- Nothing is sold or shared.
Your tunes stay yours
The tunes you import, your collections and favourites, the boxes you set up in My Boxes and your pinned buttons are stored on your iPad or Mac. The app reads a tune only when you open, share, drag or paste it in, and writes a file only when you export one and choose where it goes. Your settings stay on each device.
If you're signed in to iCloud, the app keeps your library in step across your devices by storing it in the private database of your own iCloud account, using Apple's CloudKit. Only you can see it; I have no access to your iCloud data. Apple's handling of it is covered by Apple's privacy policy. If you aren't signed in, or you turn iCloud off for the app, your library stays on that device.
Everything the app does with a tune happens on your device: working out the fingering, chords and bass, drawing the tab and notation, playing it back, and speaking cues aloud if you turn them on, which uses the voices built into iPadOS and macOS.
When information leaves your device
- iCloud sync. Your library goes to your own private iCloud database, as above, and from there to your other devices.
- Sharing and exporting. A PDF, picture or MusicXML file you share goes only where you send it.
- Backups. If you back up your iPad or Mac, to iCloud or Time Machine for example, the app's data is included like any other app's, under your control.
- Buying. The app and its one-time purchase are sold through the App Store. Apple handles payment, and I never see your payment details, name or Apple Account.
- Crash reports. If you've chosen in your device's settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may pass on crash reports from Squeezebox Studio. These don't include your tunes.
This website
This site sets no cookies and has no advertising. It uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits to each page, which doesn't use cookies or identify you. Cloudflare hosts the site and handles each request for a page in order to deliver it. Links to the App Store carry a tag naming the page they're on, so that App Store Connect can show me which pages lead to downloads; Apple reports those only as totals.
What I don't do
There are no accounts and no advertising. Nothing tracks you across other apps or websites, and no data is sold or shared with anyone.
How long information is kept
Your library is kept until you delete it. Deleting a tune or a box removes it from all your devices and your iCloud. Deleting the app removes its data from that device; the copy in your iCloud stays until you remove it in your device's iCloud settings.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation, you have the right to ask what information is held about you, and to have it corrected or deleted. As the app collects nothing, I hold no information about you from it. If you email me, I keep your message only as long as I need it to reply.
Children
Squeezebox Studio is suitable for all ages and collects no information from anyone, children included.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date, and any significant change will be mentioned in the app's release notes.
